Notice of New IGDA Japan Coordinator

The following is a notice regarding the International Game Developers Association (IGDA) Japan Chapter's appointment on October 1, 2011 of Kenji Ono to the post of Coordinator.

1. Details Regarding the Incoming Coordinator

2. Background Information
Kiyoshi Shin, the outgoing coordinator, took the position of IGDA Tokyo (currently IGDA Japan) coordinator in 2002, re-launching the chapter while also participating in it to the present day. Thanks to his nine and a half years of work, IGDA Japan was able to achieve its founding mission statement, “To contribute to the advancement of (Japanese) games and the games industry through the creation of a community for game developers that will allow the sharing of information and the subsequent creation of an environment allowing for improvement through mutual, friendly competition.”

Additionally, as of 2011, a new mission statement was set forth: “To contribute to the advancement of (Japanese) games and the games industry via creating an ever-lively environment by building on Japan’s regional advantages and using dynamic information exchange tools that have been optimized by high-tech industries.” In order to accomplish this mission, Kenji Ono has been appointed the new coordinator of IGDA Japan, and will work toward the further vitalization of the chapter. Furthermore, Kiyoshi Shin will continue his participation in IGDA Japan operations from the post of vice-coordinator, further strengthening its structure.

4. Full Name and Brief C.V. of the New Coordinator
In 1994, Kenji Ono (小野憲史) became an editor of the console gaming magazine Game Hihyō [Game Criticism] (Pub. Micro Magazine), and was appointed as its editor-in-chief in 1999. He retired from the company in 2000, and has been active as a freelance games journalist since then. Additionally, he has taken part in IGDA Japan operations from its founding days in various capabilities. In 2009, he founded and became co-chair of the Glocalization SIG, which he continues to be active in. He has also participated in GDC since 2003, where he has created IGDA connections. Hosted IGDA Japan’s first roundtable discussion at GDC 2011. For CEDEC 2011, worked together with IGDA to award student scholarships for the first time.
